Roy Tam , based in Sherborne, Dorset, is an award winning Royal College trained product designer, producing a range of contemporary furniture using sustainable ash from the wildlife friendly mixed habitat of Sir John Eliot Gardner's organic farm nearby. Together with Masashi Kutsuwa, a Japanese furniture designer maker trained at the famous Oak Village Eco Centre in southern Japan, they produce a range of furniture including dining tables, chairs, stools, benches, sideboards, cabinets, CD holders, shelving and reception desks for modern domestic, contract and heritage interiors at prices similar to the Conran Shop. Our corporate projects can include conference rooms, boardrooms, cafes, restaurants and major lottery commissions for museum and gallery seating, with customers which include the Natural History Museum, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Hampshire County Architects, Forestry Commission and Wessex Water. Our High Stool won a professional award in the Cabinet Maker Magazine's Axminster Show. Un-adorned by fashion, our timeless designs are styled by our respect for people and nature, so you can be active and healthy, while knowing that your furniture have been responsibly made. Roy graduated in Industrial Design Engineering from the Royal College of Art and Imperial College, and then worked for Cambridge Consultants as a senior designer and project manager. He then studied under David Colwell in furniture design at John Makepeace's Hooke Park Eco College, and partnered David to develop Trannon Furniture into a well respected brand. Roy was in the pioneering year of the renowned Industrial Design Engineering course which fostered a lasting link between the Royal College of Art and Imperial College, winning the Braun International Prize for Industrial Design. He joined the Design Council's Kite Mark selection panel, and have since lectured nation wide in product design, and aiming to take up a meaningful role in the promotion of sustainable design.
